Five website mistakes that cost IT companies enquiries

We review a lot of websites for managed IT providers, IT consultancies and telecoms firms in Australia, the UK and the US. The same few problems come up again and again, and each one quietly sends enquiries to a competitor.

1. Menu links that go nowhere

Main menu items such as "Cloud", "Industries" or "Areas we cover" often link to "#" so they only open a dropdown. That means there is no hub page for Google to rank and nothing for a visitor who clicks the word itself. Give every top level menu item a real page that introduces the section and links to the pages below it.

2. A homepage that does not say what you do or where

Titles like "Home" or headlines like "Simplifying networks, every day" sound good but give search engines nothing to match. Your homepage title and main heading should name your core service and your main location, for example "Managed IT Services in Brisbane".

3. No pages for the places you serve

If you serve several cities or suburbs but only have one address on the contact page, you are invisible for most local searches. A useful page for each main area you serve, with real local detail, is one of the most reliable wins in local SEO.

4. Your best content lives only on social media

Many IT firms post genuinely useful tips on LinkedIn or Instagram about Cyber Essentials, phone systems or backup. Those posts disappear in days and never rank. Turn the best ones into short articles on your own site and share those instead.

5. No FAQ, no case studies, no proof

Buyers want to know what it costs, how fast you respond and who you already work with. So do AI assistants deciding who to recommend. A clear FAQ, two or three short case studies and recent reviews do more for conversions than another paragraph about being passionate about technology.

Quick check: click every item in your main menu, search Google for your main service plus your city, and ask ChatGPT who it recommends. Those three checks take five minutes and usually reveal the biggest gaps.
